How to test Gateway NX560XL LCD Screen inverter in laptop

The screen inverter failure is very similar to the backlight lamp failure. In both cases the screen gets very dark and the image on the screen becomes very faint, barely visible under a bright light. If you suspect the inverter board failure, I know only one reliable way to test that. It’s either replacing the inverter board with a known good one and see if it works, or connecting a known good backlight lamp and see if your presumably bad inverter lights it up.

In most cases I go with the second method – testing the laptop with a known good backlight lamp. Why? Because backlight lamps are pretty much universal. The same backlight lamp will work with many different inverters as long as they have matching connectors. I’ll talk about these connectors later.

The inverter board is located inside the Dell Inspiron E1505 display panel under the Gateway NX560XL LCD Screen. In most laptops you can access the inverter board if you remove the LCD screen bezel. The inverter board has connectors on both ends. The left side of the inverter is connected to the LCD cable. The right side of the inverter is connected to the backlight lamp which is mounted inside the LCD screen. Check out this display diagram.

HP PAVILION DV5 SERIES 15.4 WXGA LAPTOP LCD Screen(Size: 15.4 inchs Resolution: 1280*800 pixels)

To make sure that inverter board is getting power from the motherboard (via the LCD cable), you can test it with a multimeter. In my case I connected the “+” lead of the multimeter to the pin 1 on the connector and the “-” lead to the ground trace around the screw hole. I got about 19.4V DC on that side of the inverter, so it’s getting power from the motherboard.

WARNING! If you accidentally short something on the inverter while testing it, you can damage the inverter or even the motherboard. Proceed on your own risk! Not sure? Don’t do that! So, the inverter is getting power from the motherboard, but the Gateway NX560XL LCD Screen is still dark. Apparently, it’s either bad inverter or failed backlight. Let’s test it with a known good backlight.

There are two different types of backlight connectors, you can see them on the picture below. The top one (big) is not as common as the bottom one (small). I do most of my test with a backligth lamp which has a small connector.

Acer Aspire 5920 Series 15.4 WXGA LCD SCREEN(Size: 15.4 inchs
Resolution: 1280x800 pixels )

Here’s what I’m going to do:
1. I will unplug the Gateway NX560XL LCD Screen from the right side of the inverter. Basically, I’m unplugging the LCD backligth lamp which is located inside the screen.
2. I will plug in my known good backlight lamp which you can see on the picture below. Please notice that my test backlight lamp is shorter than the screen, but for the test purpose that’s OK.

Finally, when you ready to test the laptop, unplug the LCD screen from the right side of the inverter.Plug in your test backlight lamp and turn on the laptop. In my case, the backlight lamp lights up, so the inverter board works properly.

Dell Inspiron Disassembly Instructions

Taking apart some laptop computers can be difficult, as is the case with the Dell Inspiron laptop. This computer has so many layers and screws that a person can quickly become confused and irritated during the disassembly. If you must strip the computer for repairs or upgrading, be sure to pack a lunch, and take a few breaks when you begin to feel overwhelmed. As long as you don't misplace any screws, the disassembly shouldn't be too painful.

Preparing the Inspiron for Disassembly
To perform this procedure, you'll need a small Phillips-head screwdriver, a small plastic wedge or a flat-head screwdriver, a small adjustable wrench or a 5mm hexagonal socket, a box of sandwich bags to put screws and small parts in, and a marker to label the bags.

Back up important information and power down the computer. Remove any external components attached to the computer and then take off the battery. Wear a wrist grounding strap or touch an unpainted metal surface to discharge the static from your body and now you're ready to take the Inspiron apart. Remember to put parts and the screws that hold them together in the same place so you don't get confused during assembly.

Start at the Top
Extract the screws on the hinge cover, open the LCD screen, and insert the plastic wedge or flat-head screwdriver inside the groove on the top-right side of the frame above the keyboard to pry the hinge cover off the computer.

Extract the keyboard screws and fold the keyboard down over the palm rest. Disconnect the flat cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard and take the keyboard off the computer. Remove the two screws that secure the video cable to the motherboard, disconnect the cable, and then remove the other six screws that hold the screen to the computer. Remove the two screen screws on the back of the computer and take the screen off. Remove the three long screws that secure the metal panel and turn the computer over to disassemble the bottom.

Take the floppy disk drive off the computer. Remove the screw from the hard drive compartment (located in the front-center) and take the hard drive off the computer. Near the product key and serial number is the graphics processor fan. Remove the two screws off the cover, take off the cover, and disconnect the fan's cable. Extract the screw on the memory module compartment and take the memory module cover off. Remove the optical drive screw and there is a latch that you can use to push the drive out of the computer. Disconnect the small cable for the modem. Extract the 12 screws that are visible on the bottom of the computer and turn the computer back over.

Finishing the Disassembly
Remove the two screws on the case where the LCD screen was attached. Disconnect the cable where the palm rest and touch pad were located. Remove the graphics card screw (the graphics card is white and has an amber-colored cable on it) and gently pull out the graphics card adapter. Take the metal piece on the right side of the computer out.

How to Fix Samsung Hinge by yourself

If your laptop is no longer under warranty or you don't want to wait for a Samsung authorized service center to repair the hinges, you can replace them on your own at home.

The LCD screen on any laptop computer is held into place by two plastic or metal hinges that allow the screen to easily move up and down. When the hinges on your Samsung laptop break, or become rusty, your screen will not open and close properly.

Check the manual that came with your Samsung laptop or navigate to the Samsung support website and find the part number for the LCD screen hinges. Purchase two replacement LCD screen hinges (see Resources).

Hold the battery release latch down with one hand and then slide the battery out of the Samsung laptop with your other hand. Flip the laptop back over and then open the LCD screen lid.

Take a thin and flat object such as the edge of a flat head screwdriver and insert it underneath the seam of the plastic bezel piece above the keyboard and just underneath the screen. Pop the piece upwards with the flat object so that you can see underneath it. Disconnect the cable connecting the bezel to the motherboard and then remove the bezel and set it aside.

Power off your Samsung laptop completely and remove the power cable. Unplug any other peripherals that are attached to the laptop, such as any USB devices. Close the top LCD screen lid and flip the Samsung laptop over so that the bottom side of the case is facing upwards.

Samsung screen hinges Remove the two screws holding the hinge on the right side to the case. Pull the hinge off and replace it with the new one. Reattach the screws to hold the hinge in place. Repeat the process with the hinge on the left side of the case. Reconnect the motherboard cable to the plastic bezel and pop the bezel back onto the case.

How to Prolong the Life of Your ACER Aspire 6920 laptop screen

Keep liquids away to best prolong the life of your laptop. While it may seem obvious not to drink coffee directly over the keyboard, a soda opened a few feet away is also unsafe, due to potential splatter. It may only take a drop to cause damage. Some laptops are more spill resistant, but many, including several sub notebooks or UMPCs, on the market are highly moisture sensitive.Laptop or notebook repairs are costly and sometimes replacement is the only option when one is damaged. Additionally, just because a laptop is mobile in design doesn't make it well-suited to be used just anywhere. Follow these tips to prolong the life of your laptop and get the most out of your investment.

B133EW01 LCD Panel Screen(B133EW01 LCD Monitor)
Gateway NX510S LCD Screen

Prolong the life of your laptop by cleaning the system components according to the manufacturer's instructions. This includes using cleaners designed for your laptop. Caution is needed with homemade cleaners, such as distilled water and alcohol, Remove dust frequently as it is one of the laptop's worse enemies. Compressed air is worth the price, sold for less at discount stores, and should last a long time with a laptop. Follow both the product instructions and warnings concerning usage. Ensure that the computer is turned off, and not just in standby, before use.as these may damage the laptop finish or leave a residue on the screen. Save money instead by comparison shopping for computer and LCD safe cleaners.Use a light touch when cleaning the ACER Aspire 6920 LCD Screen and avoid applying cleaner directly to the LCD. For stubborn areas try a microfiber towel and reapply cleanser as necessary, again, while limiting pressure.

Dell has partnered with the National Cristina Foundation to provide used computers to disabled and economically disadvantaged children.
Apple will recycle your old laptop for free if you buy a new Mac. If you are a resident of Texas, Oklahoma, or Virginia, Apple will recycle your used laptop for free. Other residents of the U.S. and Canada can recycle there equipment without a new purchase for a $30 fee. This fee includes the shipping of the laptop to an Apple recycling partner.
HP will recycle HP and Compaq branded laptops for free. They will accept other brand laptops for a fee (typically $10) and even pick the item up at your home for additional $10.Best Buy will take your laptop for $10 and give you a $10 gift card in exchange. They won’t accept computers with the hard drive, so you’ll need to remove it first, or have Geek Squad do it for $19.99. They also offer a trade-in program for select “gently used” laptops that were purchased at Best Buy. You’ll need to be the original purchaser, have a valid ID and a receipt. They do mention that if you don’t have the receipt they will “make every effort to locate it for you.”

You can pick up a box at Office Depot, fill it with qualifying equipment, and return it to the store for recycling.Staples’ EcoEasy program allows you to recycle Dell products for free at any participating store, or other brand items for $10.Earth911 and MyGreenElectronics.org compile comprehensive databases of local recycling programs. Try searching your area for a local recycling center.

Sell it on eBay or craigslist. It you decide to go this route, be sure to properly run a low level format tool or disk eraser utility on the hard drive first. Simply formatting a hard drive does not ensure that someone with the proper recovery tools couldn't still recover you.Find a friend or family member that might be interested in a used laptop. Just as in Step 1, you need to run a low level format tool or disk eraser utility first to ensure data is properly purged.Sell or reuse some of the parts. If you’re comfortable taking apart a laptop it might be worth your while to sell some of the parts on eBay and reuse others. The hard drive can be turned into a cheap external USB device for backup or extra storage by purchasing a USB hard drive enclosure. Other parts like memory modules, DVD drive, and even LCD might have some value. Do a quick search on eBay or craiglist to see if parts from your laptop might be selling for a worthwhile price.

Disconnect the inverter cable. The inverter cable plugs into the inverter, which is located directly beside it. The inverter can be found beneath the bezel after it is removed, and directly below the center of the LCD display.Remove the bezel from the HP Pavilion DV6000 display. Pop it off by isolating a corner and peeling it off from there. Be careful not to bend or warp the bezel in the process.

Remove the remaining screws. These screws are located in the metal brackets on either side of the HP Pavilion DV6000 laptop screen. These metal brackets are only visible once the bezel is removed. There should be two screws on each bracket, but this varies by model. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove these screws, and put them in safe place, such as your plastic bag. Pull the LCD display from the back plastic of the computer carefully, then remove the old display altogether. Slide the new display in and reconnect the inverter cable.

Replace the screws into each metal bracket, making sure to hold the new HP Pavilion DV6000 LCD display in place. Then, put the bezel into place over the LCD display. Replace all the screws and make sure they are tightly screwed into the bezel. Power the Toshiba laptop back on and enjoy your newly fixed hardware. Save any documentation that shipped with your replacement LCD display for later perusal or warranty purposes.

How to Replace the LCD Inverter in a ACER Aspire 5050

In this post I explain how to remove and replace a new LCD Inverter in a ACER Aspire 5050 laptop. Most likely this guide will work for many other Dell laptops.

All liquid crystal displays (LCD) on laptops use a component known as an inverter board to properly display images on the screen. When an inverter board suffers a mechanical failure or is damaged through a power surge your ACER Aspire 5050 LCD screen will simply stop displaying images. If you don't want to buy a new laptop or take the computer to a repair shop you can replace the board on your own. To replace an inverter board on a ACER Aspire 5050you will need to first remove several other components that hide the board.

Shut down the laptop's operating system. Close the top LCD display lid and remove any cables connected to the ACER Aspire 5050. Touch a metal object that is connected to the floor to remove the static electricity in your body.Flip the laptop over so that the bottom half is facing towards you. Press the battery latch at the right side of the case to unlock the battery. Pull the battery out of the ACER Aspire 5050.

Turn the laptop back over. Open the top LCD display lid all of the way so that the entire laptop is laying out flat.Push a flat plastic object such as a guitar pick underneath the right side of the plastic bezel, which is located above the keyboard. Wiggle the pick until the bezel pops off the case. Remove the bezel and set it aside.

Remove the two screws at the top of the keyboard. Disconnect the cable running from the keyboard to the motherboard. Lift the keyboard off the ACER Aspire 5050.Pull out the six rubber bumpers located along the edges of the LCD display's plastic bezel. Remove the six screws located underneath the bumpers. Pull the plastic bezel carefully off the LCD display.Remove the screw holding the inverter board to the bottom edge of the LCD display. Disconnect the cables running from the inverter board to the ports on the motherboard.Set the new inverter board onto the open slot on the ACER Aspire 5050. Attach its screw and the motherboard cables. Push the plastic bezel back onto the LCD display and reconnect the screws and rubber bumpers.

LP154WX4-TLA3 LCD Screen(LP154WX4-TLA3 LCD Monitor)

Work around the bezel to seperate from the backing plate Once inserted, work your way all around the bezel to detach the plastic clips behind it. You should never have to pry too hard to avoid damage.Seperate bezel completely Carefully separate the bezel from the Dell Inspiron 1545 LCD and the backing plate.Set aside bezel Once bezel is separated, you can set it aside out of the work area.

Flip Dell Inspiron 1545 LCD forward and away from the backing plate Now carefully pry the LCD away from the backing plate. There is nothing holding it except a small connector on the bottom. You can flip the LCD forward onto the keyboard of your laptop as if flipping a page in a book. Pay attention to the connector, it can be damaged easily if it is pried away from the Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Notice how connector can be removed Now look closely at the connector. It simply slides into the female socket.

Remove the Connector Using a small flat screwdriver it can be pried away from the connector. Only use the side tabs of the connector to pry while gently pulling out. Pay close attention to the wires, they are very delicate. Do not pull on the wires, only the connector. Also pay attention to the orientation of the connector to help in assembly.Reassembled!! Assembly is exactly opposite of disassembly. However, be sure to simply press on the bezel while supporting it from behind to click in the internal clips gently.

How to Troubleshoot ACER Aspire 6920 Laptop

Firstly, check the power. If your laptop won't turn on using the battery, plug it into a wall outlet using the power cable that came with the machine. If it powers up, you could have a dead battery which can easily be replaced. See if the battery will take a charge. If not, replace it.

ACER Aspire 6920 LCD Screen(Size: 16.0 inchs;Resolution: 1366*768 pixels)

Then, check if the AC power adapter is working. If there's no indicator on the power cable, check the laptop to see if the "charging" light is lit.Low voltage could result in the laptop's battery being unable to charge or the computer not turning on. Check to see if the light on the power cable is on when it is plugged into the wall outlet. If there's no light, use a volt meter to check the voltage. See if the ACER Aspire 6920 laptop's BIOS is up-to-date. Sometimes an outdated BIOS can result in your being unable to recharge the battery.

Look for flashing drive lights or other activity after the ACER Aspire 6920 laptop has been powered on. If so, and you get no display on the computer's screen, attach the ACER Aspire 6920 laptop to an external monitor. If you get a display, then there's a problem with the laptop's LCD screen, and it may need to be replaced or repaired.Check the video cables connecting the LCD panel to the laptop. These are know to come loose in shipping or after excessive use. Also check cables connecting drives and other peripherals to the computer or to ACER Aspire 6920 motherboard.

Check the ACER Aspire 6920 laptop's power adapter. This requires opening the case and checking to see if the socket for the laptop's CPU is open or closed. If you're uncomfortable doing this, bring it to a qualified repair facility, and have them check it. Otherwise, open the case after disconnecting the batter and power cable. Remove the heat sink, which covers the CPU and check to see if the socket is set to open or closed. Set it to "closed," and then retest the computer.

How to Repair Acer Aspire One A110 Computer LCD Screen

This article covers the repair for a relatively common problem with computer monitor, where the monitor will turn on, but only display a screen for about half a second. Shining a bright light source onto the screen will reveal that the image is there, but the backlight is off. Two capacitors in the power supply have gone bad. Anyone with basic soldering skills should be able to perform this repair, and the cost is quite literally a fraction of buying a new monitor. But buying a new one can save more time.

The cable screw that needs to be removed is circled in red.Remove the back cover and metal shroud under it. There are a number of screws around the outer edge of the back cover. Once you remove those, you'll need to gently pry around the edges of the cover with the flat screwdriver to pop it off. Once you have he back cover removed, you will see a metal shroud covering the electronics. There are a few screws holding Acer Aspire One A110 down as well. Remove the screws and then slide the shroud slightly to the right to remove it. NOTE: There is a black cable running from the monitor's control panel into the shrouded area. You'll need to remove the small screw grounding it to the monitor chassis to unplug it from the circuit board under the shroud.

Middle is a suitable exact replacement. Bottom is the bad one.Remove the old and install the new capacitors. You'll need to use your soldering iron to remove the old ones, from the bottom of the board. There are several screws holding it down. Be careful when Acer Aspire One A110 removing the board so as not to damage the two connectors attaching it to the green video board.8.9 inch LCD Screen(8.9 inch LCD Screen )
13.3 Inch LCD Screen(13.3 Inch LCD Screen )

The two capacitors needing replacement are circled in red.Locate the bad capacitors. There are two, both on the main (left-side, tan) power supply circuit board. There is a yellow transformer near the top of the board; one of the capacitors will be above it, and the other will be slightly to its left.

You should have enough solder still on the board to re-attach the new capacitors; if not, you can use a little more solder. Remember, when replacing capacitors, always use the same microfarad value and the same or higher voltage. I replaced the 1,000 mfd 16v capacitor with a 1,000 mfd 35v one in my monitor with no problems. Be sure to install the capacitors with the correct polarity, just as you would with a battery. The wide gray or white band on a capacitor is the negative side. The positive side is marked on the board.Replace the Acer Aspire One A110 power supply board, metal shroud and back cover. Make sure that when you replace the board, the two connectors attach to the video board.

Remember to reconnect that black cable to its connector on the bottom of the video board as well. The metal shroud slides into place as before. Snap down and screw on the back cover, and you're done! Here provide you other choices :

ALWAYS remember to install capacitors with correct polarity. Putting them in backwards will damage them and could damage your monitor.Always make sure that any equipment you plan on opening up is unplugged to prevent electric shock. The area you will be working in on Acer Aspire One A110 monitor carries active high voltage when it is plugged in.You should wear long pants and sleeves to prevent accidental burns if you are inexperienced with a soldering iron.

How to Repair HP ZV6000 LCD Screen Problems

Many problems with the HP ZV6000 notebook PC's LCD display are related to battery power and can include the display failing to resume from standby. Contact HP if the screen flickers or if vertical lines, a solid green line or incorrect colors appear on the display. The display may be bad and need replacing. The occasional bright or dim pixel is normal. http://www.papatek.com/LCD%2DPanel/

Ensure the AC adapter is connected if you get a blank screen. Many blank screen issues are caused by battery problems. If reconnecting the power solves the problem, you may have an issue with battery charge.Check whether the screen resumes from standby. If it doesn't, confirm that the Windows XP power management is set correctly. Displays sometimes time out and don't recover. This problem is fixed in Windows XP Service Pack 2. Install Microsoft Windows Service Pack 2. In the Windows Control Panel Security Settings, enable automatic updates.

Close and reopen Windows Media Player if the normal video display resolution alters to a different setting. This is caused by hibernation occurring when Windows Media Player is in full-screen mode. Avoid having the computer go into hibernation by keeping the battery topped up.
