How to replace the cell phone screen

Mobile phones always seem to find new ways of getting broken, and the screens are usually the most susceptible to physical damage. Whether the phone was dropped, stepped on or just simply stopped working, it is possible to replace the cracked or defective screen with a new one. Replacing the LCD screen on a mobile phone is a complicated process because of the size of the parts, but it can be done at home as long as you have the necessary tools.

You shoule power off your mobile phone completely by holding down the power button for four or five seconds. Turn the phone over and remove the back plate. Slide your fingernail underneath the battery and pop the battery out of the phone.

Locate the SIM card if your mobile phone is a GSM style phone. Pull back the metal covering over the SIM card and then remove the card. Set it aside.Then removing the RF grommet Find the plastic RF grommet at the bottom of the phone near where the battery was located. Grab the grommet with a pair of tweezers and remove it from the phone.

After that removing the bottom cover Insert the tweezers into the hole on the side of the phone opposite from where the RF grommet was located. Use the tweezers to pull up on the latch inside the hole to unlock the bottom plastic antenna cover. Lift the cover off of the phone and set it aside.Metal plate Pull out the screws along the edges of the phone using the Torx screwdriver. Take the metal plate off of the phone.

Flip the phone over so that you can see the LCD screen. Slide the edge of a flat head screwdriver in between the seam of the plastic cover on the bottom of the phone. Wiggle the screwdriver up and down gently to unlock the catch underneath the plastic cover. Lift the entire plastic cover up and then off the phone.Find the latch on the side of the LCD screen and unlock it with the tweezers. Pull the screen slightly off of the phone and then disconnect the cable running from the screen to the phone. Lay the replacement screen back into the phone and attach the cable.

Set the plastic cover back onto the phone and then flip it back over. Re-attach the metal plate and put the screws back in. Push the RF grommet back into place and then place the SIM card and battery back in the phone. Put the plastic cover on the back off the phone and then power it on to ensure the screen is working correctly.

How to Install an iPod Video LCD Screen

When an iPod gets transported constantly, there is bound to come a time when the wear and tear catches up with it. Occasionally, the LCD video screen on an iPod can become cracked or scratched and need replacing. IPod repairs can be quite costly, but you can save money by learning how to do them yourself. A few steps, performed cautiously, and you can have your new iPod LCD screen installed in no time.

Lay down a rubber mat and lay your iPod and tools on it. This will help prevent static electricity from forming and damaging your iPod's hard drive.Turn the iPod off by pressing and holding the "Play/Pause" control.Turn the "Hold" switch on, with the orange showing.

Run the small plastic wedge along the groove of the iPod casing. Insert the wedge and gently pry the case apart.Lay the iPod face down, and very slowly and gently lift up on the back. You will see the battery-connecting ribbon. Using the flathead screwdriver, lift up on the lever that holds the battery cable in place and disconnect the cable. Lay the back of the iPod and the battery down.Lift up on the hard drive and flip it over. You will see where the hard drive is connected to the iPod by a larger cable, secured by a brown lever.

Lift up on this lever, preferably with your hands, and then gently loosen the cable from the iPod and disconnect it. Gently set the hard drive aside. There will still be a second ribbon connecting the two iPod halves. Gently raise the locking lever and disconnect the second ribbon.

Using the Philips screwdriver, loosen and remove the six screws that are attached to the side of the iPod front. Put them where they will not be lost.Gently lift up on the brown lever that holds the LCD screen cable in place. Gently place the small flathead screwdriver between the metal LCD housing

and the plastic tabs of the face plate. There will be three on each side. Gently separate them.Be very careful to not lose any parts with this next step. Lift the metal housing and pull it away from the face plate. Slide the screen gently out an away from the face plate.Remove the plastic covering from your new LCD screen. Slide the screen into the metal housing. Connect the LCD screen cable and secure it down with the clip.Put the iPod back together by working the steps backwards, taking care to not lose any pieces or damage any battery-connecting cables.
